one night before battle
the solitary warrior
stands upon a precipice
out upon the plains
the lands he has conquered
and lost
for tomorrows battle
will be one
unlike any other
for this one
may well be his very last
defeat would mean the end
victory
another chance to fight on
from now on there is no retreat
there are no second chances
only victory and defeat stand in the balance
so will he throw caution to the wind
and fling himself into wild battle?
no
he will fight with
caution
with respect for his enemies
fear
for the consequences
but he will also fight with
courage
and a grave determination
stemming from the realisation
that this battle may be the end
of a long
war
it certainly need not end this way
there is hope for victory
and a good one at that
so for now
the warrior lets wild emotions fly through his soul
dreams of glory and victory
great visions of conquest
and also dark thoughts of defeat
for during the battle
there can only be serenity
there can only be peace
he will fight as a warrior must
with skill
with determination
with fire
with courage
with honour
with loyalty
standing side by side
with old friends
he will fight in a way befitting
his allegiance
and if victory is his
then it is not his but His
and if defeat is the fate he faces
then he faces it not alone
but with Him by his side
